Since 2016: Herders Matching Funds which have been created with the support of the Green Gold Animal Health Project of SDC.
The initial objective was to encourage herders to join Pasture User Groups for improved and collective management of rangelands and learn to fundraise within themselves to finance investment projects that benefit all members. In order to ensure the sustainability of Herders Matching Funds, the Green Gold Animal Health Project has developed a business model of Herders Savings and Credit Cooperatives converted from the matured Herders Matching Funds. Besides financial capital, the social capital; trust and teamwork that herders have built by operating their Matching Funds have been essential to transform them into professional Savings and Credit Cooperatives. As of Dec 2019, over 30 Matching Funds in 10 aimags have been transformed into Credit and Savings Cooperatives with 7,069 members and shared asset of MNT 0.6 billion. Furthermore, the Green Gold and Animal Health Project of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and XacBank have partnered with the Mongolian National Federation of Pasture User Groups in the implementation of Green Pasture-soft loan project in Chandmana soum of Hovd aimag benefitting 97 herder households.
