Since 2017: “Responsible Nomads” Livestock traceability system is developed and implemented.

Green Gold Animal Health Project of SDC and National PUG Federation has developed a livestock raw material quality traceability system which is one of the important pre-conditions to expand marketing opportunities beyond Mongolia. The Responsible Nomads code of practices and its traceability system aim to encourage best practices of nomadic livestock herding to maintain sustainable rangeland and livestock management. As of 2019, there are about 29 soum APUG cooperatives have facilitated sales of livestock raw materials, milk, meat and live animals worth MNT 2.7 billion through the traceability system the origin of which is validated and healthy.

Furthermore the National Agricultural Extension Center (NAEC) and National PUG Federation scaled up the meat traceability experience into milk in Bornuur soum of Tuv aimag with selected semi sedentary herder households. As of 10 Jan 2020, herders/farmers in Bornuur soum supplied 300 tons of traceable and safe milk through Responsible Nomads traceability system to Vitaft Milk Company with the sales income worth MNT 240 million. Vitafit Milk Company has upscaled the system into 4 other soums.

Moreover, for the creation of traceability of animal health and with no drug residual, GG AHP has assisted the State Central Veterinary Laboratory to expand its “veterinary integrated laboratory information system” into 330 soums enabling to monitor veterinary services provided to herders, disease outbreak and provide validation for drug residual test. Animal health traceability system is handed over to the GAVS for up scaling. In 2019, GAVS has committed 160.0 million MNT and Khovd, Gobi-Altai, Uvs, Bayankhongor, Zavkhan and Darkhan-Uul aimag Government allocated MNT 470 for up scaling of the animal health traceability system nationwide. Due to the upscaling of and training on animal health traceability system, 18673 digital animal health certificates have been issued for the sales of traceable livestock originated raw materials, meat and live animals, as of December 2019.
